What is Joomla?

Joomla is written in PHP (recursive acronym for PHP is Hypertext Preprocessor). It uses object-oriented programming coding (OOP) and typically stores data driven by the CMS in a MySQL database.
It has some built-in features such as page caching, RSS feeds, news updates, blog layouts, website search, and good support for multiple languages.
On top of this the website can be extended using over 8,000 free and commercial extensions available for Joomla. Many of these extensions can be found the extensive Joomla Extension Directory.
